1: Mihir Garh...

The sandcastle-like Mihir Garh sits in complete isolation amid the Thar Desert near Jodhpur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It took 150 masons,


artisans and craftsmen two years to build what the owners describe as ‘a dream realised'. Despite its ancient appearance the hotel was only built in 2009. The name means 'fort of the sun' and each of the hotel's nine suites spans at least 1,700 square feet



The sprawling hotel is made up of just nine extravagant suites which all come with their own private jacuzzi’s or plunge pool. The owners of the hotel say the Mihir Garh 'redefines the word indulgence' But despite the luxurious surroundings prices start at £163-a night full board



The fort-like hotel sits completely isolated in the middle of the desert. The flooring of each room has been crafted using a special plastering technique known to only one man in the entire Jodhpur region. He along with a lone assistant put in hours of work in creating the palatial flooring which spans the entire building




Despite the hotel's massive footprint there are only nine suites for guests to choose from, ranging in price from £163-£350 a night full board. The fort has been designed and conceived using as many natural materials as possible. Use of chemicals were avoided to keep the look and feel of the fort as close to rural Rajasthan as possible




2: Planet Baobab...


Planet Baobab in Gweta, Botswana, sits in the vast wilderness which makes up the the Makgadigadi Pan, which is the world’s largest network of salt pans. Planet Baobab is named after the baobab trees which surround and overlook its thatched African huts











Guests can see elephants gather at the neighbouring waterhole as they relax in the authentic African bar. The series of pans the resort sits on are the remains of what used to be a huge ancient inland ocean. Prices start from £42 a night and guests can also take part in safari tours

The 60m high Torre is Bologna's second tallest and is one of about 20 that remain from a time when Bologna's most powerful families had towers built for their own personal protection





The Torre PrendiparteIt was originally built as a refuge for a family but later became a seminary and then in the 1700s served as a religious prison. The living area is on the first two floors and comprises of a snug living room, mezzanine bedroom and kitchen.

10: The Gibbon Experience Treehouse, Bokeo Reserve, Laos.

The tree houses were erected by conservation group Animo sit on top of the giant trunks of the strangler fig trees. To reach the huts guests have to catch a series of zip lines strung across the forest canopy, before flying into their night's accommodation








The Gibbon Experience: Poaching, logging and slash-and-burn farming are destroying primary forest and its inhabitants in South East Asia. The team at Animo built tree houses and a network of zip lines through the canopy of the nature reserve. The funds received are reinvested to protect the forest
